The Great G36 Controversy

Wednesday, January 29, 2020 11:06:22 AM America/New_York

Does the G36 melt when it gets hot?

Or a more appropriate question would be,

Does the precision of the g36 suffer when the barrel gets hot and more specifically does it suffer to an extent that would conflict with the basic stated German army requirements for the g36?

This has been an emotionally charged issue due to a lot more than just the technical facts. Ian McCallum of Forgotten Weapons takes a look at the question and finds out what's really going on with the great G36 controversy!

After Ian breaks down the anecdotal data and where this controversy started, he goes on to state "The reality of the situation is the G36 is a pretty darn good rifle...If this was a legitimately serious problem, we would know about it from more sources..."

And this is just what the German Court System has found as well after allegations that HK had "misled" the German government over the accuracy of the G36 and it should be replaced.

HK sued and responded that their gun met all of the requirements - every firearm design is a balance of compromises and understandably, HK was set with an impossible set of compromises. "A gun must be "this" light, it must be "this" accurate when it gets "this" hot" - and in this case, you're trading sustained fire capability (how much energy/how much heat can the barrel absorb before it's temperature changes enough to affect accuracy) vs weight (carrying the firearm). And HK met these requirements and made a compromise towards weight.

Currently, there is no other company able to meet these requirements other than HK.

The courts found that HK was correct, the firearm was good and met military specs...it did when it was adopted and it still does today.

Check out Ian's breakdown of the topic and let us know what you think!

SHOT SHOW 2020 - T36 TommyBuilt Tactical

Tuesday, January 28, 2020 3:01:10 PM America/New_York

Larry Vickers of Vickers Tactical catches up with Tom Bostic of TommyBuilt Tactical to show his USA made version of the H&K G36 - The T36.

Tom speaks about his longtime passion for the HK G36 and the inspiration he drew from the SL-8 and saw the market in the states for a very special version only Tom Bostic could produce!

Tom speaks on how they do different models across many states even with many state laws differing. We've all seen the german guns in movies, video games, etc and have our heart set on an idea of what the G36 is.

Some love the C model and some love the E model with the dual optic carry handle for example.  He's proud that everyone has their own idea of what their G36 is that they want and is able to offer so many options!

Not only can use customize your parts, but Tom can even custom paint them. His site comes with all sorts of cool paint schemes and options - even if you want plain black, there are still lots of options for parts to choose from.

Tom says many people don't understand how modular the t36 really is - the receiver is the same for all 3 models - its just a barrel change - "the furniture is all the same. You can swap [parts] right around, so you can really make it into any of the models you want!"

So which is the most popular? Tom explains "[The T36] is nice to do in a C Pistol! It's the most popular and has been the most popular in all of the video games and movies...that's what you see the most and pretty much our top hot seller!"

The Average Shooter T36 Review

Wednesday, January 15, 2020 4:52:03 PM America/New_York

"Anyone who's dived into the world of HK products or the G36 specifically via forums or social media groups knows that new production models exist but not by HK, instead they know or have heard of Tom Bostic's name at least once due to his extensive knowledge with the G36..."

Featuring a more cinematic approach to doing a review, The Average Shooter team reviews the Tommybuilt Tactical T36C and T36K, American-made clones of the iconic Heckler und Koch (H&K) G36C and G36K.

The Average Shooter team briefly goes over some of the company history of Tommy Built Tactical, owned by Tom Bostic, some of their offerings, and of course, an extensive review of some of the capabilities of the platform that he is well known for reproducing for us in the United States.

Tom Bostic is upfront and honest and will gladly answer any questions that you have even if you're just window-shopping. He's very informative and can do whatever he can to help you out and get you the model that you want if you somehow have a problem with any of his products no matter how small you'll personally address them.

This speaks volumes to the TommyBuilty Platform and products!

Brownells, Inc. T36 Review

Friday, December 13, 2019 5:29:13 PM America/New_York

Gee, another clone of a famous subgun? No, a G36!

Paul Levy, leader of the Brownells product acquisition crew, shows us the T36C 5.56 NATO pistol from Tommy Built Tactical.

This is a semi-auto pistol clone of the Heckler & Koch G36C compact carbine variant of the German military's G36 service rifle.

The T36C is classified as a pistol for ATF purposes, but it has all the distinctive G36C features: the ambidextrous topside bolt handle upfront, Picatinny rail on top of the low-pro carry handle, H&K-style "iron" sights, and it uses the Magpul® G36 PMAG®. It even has an authentic-looking but non-functional "AUTO" position on the selector! Paul disassembles his T36C to show us what's under the hood, including the ops sys based on the AR-180, like the Brownells BRN-180™, and a bolt/carrier assembly similar to the FN SCAR. The T36C comes ready for you to install the brace or stock (if you want to go the SBR route) of your choice. It comes with a backpack for discreet carry.

Mishaco T36 Review

Friday, December 13, 2019 5:22:24 PM America/New_York

"TommyBuilt is the go-to guy, the only real guy in town for serious G36, SL8, USC, UMP type [products]"

Misha (Mishaco on YouTube) takes TommyBuilt T36 to the range and gives it a go with an extremely detailed and informative review that we've come to expect from Misha!

Using different types of brass including steel case, Misha found the T36 to be 100% reliable, well constructed and authentic. Misha also noticed quite light recoiling with a smooth bolt, no magazine issues and a decent trigger (Polymer).

Youtube Review

With a few oddities noticed, one must always remember, this is one gun...one review. Misha did point out a few one-offs with the brass deflector and gas blasting from the muzzle. But overall, with the number of reviews from owners and personal modifications, overall this is a good firearm!

Sean Burrows T36 Review

Friday, December 13, 2019 5:21:07 PM America/New_York

"Fact is, there is no civilian G36...that's why we need to love Tom Bostic!"

Sean Burrows - Competitive Shooter of the HK Shooting Team talks to us about the TommyBuilt T36!

With his first rounds fired from the T36, in this video he brings us along to see what the T36 can do. One thing Sean noticed was with a polymer receiver and 18'' barrel it [T36] swings and feels like an SBR "I can't believe how well I can point and maneuver this thing."

So what is a T36? Although Sean doesn't like the phrase - it is an HK Clone..."no one calls AR's that aren't made by Armalite, Armalite Clones". It's a 25 yr old platform, the G36, which Sean states he'll be more than happy to go more in detail in a later video!

"Tom fabricates and makes these polymer receivers himself. With all American made parts, made in America by Tom Bostic - It's a fantastic setup!"

Runs like an HK and seems to be as accurate as an HK Sean is looking forward to having his own T36 built and put through it's paces.

Garand Thumb T36 Review

Friday, December 13, 2019 5:09:31 PM America/New_York

"Top Notch Top Quality!"

Gentleman...Ladies...and of course the not gone, not forgotten - 1897 Trench Shotgun from WW2 - Garand Thumb brings you his review of the TommyBuilt T36!

TommyBuilt makes domestic (US Produced) G36 clones and has been getting a lot of traction due to the quality of his work and many other things. Plus there aren't a bunch guys making these conversions or receivers in the US.

Garand bought his own T36 after completing a video with James Williamson and falling in love with his G36. Garand just had to get his own T36 (G36 Clone). For most people, having a G36 is not an option due to being hard to get, so with that in mind, we bring you a much more easily obtainable firearm that is a G36 - The T36 by TommyBuilt.

After watching the review, be sure to comment and let us know what you think!
